About FENPS
Formal Education Network for Private Schools (FENPS) is a registered non-profit and non-political organization in Somalia, founded in 2003. It supports community education by renovating and building schools for needy children, especially those from internally displaced and impoverished families.
FENPS distributes educational supplies and recreational materials, and creates income opportunities for low-income families and youth through skills training. Since its establishment, FENPS has implemented various humanitarian and development programs.
The organization emerged in response to the collapse of government services in Somalia in 1991, supporting private schools to advocate for education and provide affordable learning opportunities to vulnerable children.
It also trains teachers and establishes free temporary schools for internally displaced children to improve educational quality and access.
FENPS’s work aligns with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), notably SDG 4 (quality education), and significantly impacts SDG 5 (gender equality) and SDG 8 (decent work and economic growth).
